The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
